| Notable
features at this price |
This
is our budget bike with the low maintenance of disc brakes.
We have liked the SR Suntour fork for its preload adjustment,
a basic necessity not all budget bikes have. And, of course,
the tough GT frame. |
| A
word about GT frames |
We've
liked GT MTB frame design and construction since they made the
move from BMX in 1989. The 6061 heat-treated Aluminum frames
are built like the more expensive models, just not as light.
They are the toughest you can buy, and everyone will tell you
that. GT pioneered reinforced head tubes and gusseted, oversized
frame tubes that are now industry standard. This frame also
boasts a sophisticated hydroformed down tube for strength and
light weight. Finally, the rear fork ends are precision aligned
and the disc brake mounts are machined after welding so that
the mechanic's job of setting up the brakes goes the way you'd
want it to. If only they were all like this. |

Aluminum
frame, SR Suntour fork with adjustable preload, Acera Rapidfire
8 speed, Tektro cable disc brakes front & rear, threadless

| Why
we like this bike |
Decent
disc brakes on a GT frame for cheap. |
| Who
is this bike for? |
Someone
who gets wet and muddy often, knows they are going to wear
out the bike and doesn't want to spend a lot on it.
