This is the smartest bike we have ever seen for kids in that
difficult age range of 7-11 years old. It grows with the young
rider because it has
- special, Fisher-designed cranks that can be set up for
two different leg lengths,
- an adjustable-reach stem,
- brake levers that fit small hands, yet work properly with
today's linear-pull brakes,
- a top tube height low enough for shorter riders to mount
and dismount. The seatpost is still long enough to work
for taller kids.

The Cosmo is your first geared bike with hand brakes. It
takes the smart Fisher fit down to six-year-olds, using the
same ideas as in the larger Tyro:
- adjustable crank length,
- adjustable stem reach,
- special brake levers for small hands (and we know enough
to adjust those brake springs for an easy squeeze!),
- easily enough clearance for a typical 7-year-old to hop
on and off with confidence.

Gamma Ray 16" $149.99

Everybody likes the look of the Gamma Ray! Although we do
have the little Sun Spot (see below) with 12" wheels,
the 16" Gamma Ray is most kids' first bike at around
age four. This little bike is sized right and built tough
enough to last through all the family's children, cousins,
and probably their neighbors, too. We know this is true because
we do take these as trade-ins and surprisingly few come back.
- Coaster brakes for the little ones who can't work hand
brakes,
- Heavy-duty, unusually wide, steel-center training wheels
included,
- Appropriately sized grips, saddles, and pedals
- Regular version with fenders, girly version with basket
and streamers (we sell streamers in various colors as add-ons,
too).

Sun Spot 12" $119.99

A Sun Spot is just about the same size as our 12" trike.
It works for a normal-sized three-year-old, say, a little
bigger than three feet tall. A lot of the discount store bikes
this size are what we call "sidewalk bikes", which
don't coast or have brakes. In other words, they are really
tricycles with chains and don't really get you to accustomed
to riding a real bike. They also break down quickly and are
not serviceable.
In contrast to throwaway sidewalk bikes, these Sun Spots
are really built to take a beating. Pretty much the only things
that can destroy them involve falling off of or getting run
over by cars. It's not uncommon for a 2-year-old Sun Spot
to fetch $50 at trade-in time (see
our Trade-in page for details).
